Welcome to Chilton Bee Company and thank you for visiting us. We have been beekeepers for 10 years now and manage around 400 to 450 colonies. We take a lot of pride in our products and the bees that we produce. If you have purchased from us in the past I want to thank you for your business.
Our bees are highly mite-resistant, very hygienic and heavily possess Russian genetics. We originally began with very hygienic bees and although not originally our intent, we have never treated our bees for mites. We did have a fair amount of losses for a couple of Winters, but as time went on our survivors became resilient in their own defense against Varroa mites. Our mite washes now consistently measure at around 1% mite counts in August and September.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your bees treated for mites?

No, we have never treated our bees for mites. Through years of resilience and natural selection, our colonies have developed strong defenses against Varroa mites. Our mite washes consistently show low counts, ensuring the health of our bees.

Are Russian bees more aggressive?

Contrary to common myths, Russian bees are not more aggressive. While any hive may exhibit occasional differences in behavior, our Russian bees are known for their balance of docility and resilience.

How do you ensure the quality of your products?

Our colonies undergo annual health inspections by the State of Alabama Apiary Protection Unit. We have also participated in the USDA APHIS Honey Bee Pests & Disease Survey, ensuring the highest standards in beekeeping.
