At Chilton Bee Company, we're passionate about beekeeping and producing the finest raw wildflower honey in Alabama. Located in the heart of Chilton and Autauga Counties, our bee yards benefit from the diverse wildflower blooms that make our region truly unique.

Our Mission

We're dedicated to sustainable beekeeping practices and breeding mite-resistant bees that thrive in Alabama's climate. Our focus on genetics and hive health means stronger colonies, better honey production, and healthier bees for beekeepers throughout the region.

What We Offer

Premium Raw Wildflower Honey — Harvested from our Alabama bee yards, our honey is pure and raw to preserve its natural enzymes, pollen, and flavor.

Mated Queens — We specialize in producing high-quality mated queens with a focus on mite resistance, gentle temperament, and productivity. Our queens are raised in Alabama conditions for Alabama beekeepers, yet thriving all over the country.

Mite-Resistant Bees — Through careful selection and breeding, we offer bees that demonstrate natural resistance to varroa mites, eliminating the need for chemical treatments and promoting healthier hives.

Our Bees

We originally began with highly hygienic bees and — though not originally our intent — we have never treated our bees for mites. We experienced some losses in the early winters, but as time went on our survivors became increasingly resilient in their own defense against Varroa mites. Our mite washes now consistently measure at around 1% mite counts in August and September.

Our bees are frugal and overwinter exceptionally well. They maintain a smaller cluster than Italians, utilizing fewer stored resources, yet build up at a faster rate once natural forage becomes available. For beekeepers with pollination contracts, these bees can be stimulated earlier using pollen patties and syrup. Our colonies are inspected for health yearly by the State of Alabama Apiary Protection Unit, and we have also participated in the USDA APHIS Honey Bee Pests & Disease Survey — a testament to our commitment to hive health and transparency.
